One example of this advanced anaerobic treatment technol ogy is the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB). This paper describes how a large potato processor adapted UASB reactor technology to meet increasingly stringent dis charge requirements and provide process energy. Reactor design parameters are outlined and start-up and steady-state · Upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor which is the most widespread technology among anaerobic processes for industrial wastewaters treatment and can typically handle highly digestible wastewaters (10–20 kg COD /m 3 /d) has been reported in different AD-MFC systems 21 60 .

Gopalakrishna K. Karanth. · 1. Introduction1.1. Food industry wastewaters. Food processing requires high volumes of water. Specifically in the last decades this sector has become the third largest industrial user of water after the refined petroleum primary metals and chemicals industries (Barbera and Gurnari 2018).Water consumption in the food industry is connected with the required high quality of the final product
A two-stage upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor operated with tapioca as the cosubstrate (1 500 mg/L) achieved a 70 color removal and an almost 90 COD reduction. When only one UASB reactor was used without any cosubstrate a 60 COD reduction and 80 color removal were achieved. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of toluene on an anaerobic sludge taken from a full-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor in terms of potential activity and composition of acetoclastic methanogens. Specific methanogenic activity (SMA) test results showed that 5 9.5 14 24 29 38 and 62 inhibition .
· In stabilization phase SLUDGE reactor showed higher volumetric biogas generated of 78.9 mL/day (or 35.6 mL CH 4 /day) reaching a methane yield of 0.53 L CH 4 /g VS. Likewise SWINE/SLUDGE and SWINE were also good inocula . Inocula play an important role in anaerobic reactor startup by balancing the populations of syntrobacter and methanogens. Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a well-established technology to produce biogases such as methane and applied as a viable means for providing continuous power generation (Mao et al. 2015). The biodegradation process mainly includes four steps hydrolysis acidogenesis acetogenesis and methanogenesis (Zhang et al. 2014).
